October Webinar for the WaterScape Program is going to focus on Ontario's Model for Biodiversity Conservation.

Steve Hounsell, chair of the Ontario Biodiversity Council, holds that “The conservation of biodiversity, the variety of life on Earth, is foundational to our pursuit of a healthy, prosperous and sustainable future. It is also vital for clean air, healthy waters and a stable climate. Yet we seldom connect the dots”.

To do so, Steve believes that Biodiversity needs to move from being an issue for some to being an issue for all, and be mainstreamed into all sectors as a way of managing our interactions with the natural world.

Key efforts in that regard are on tap for 2021. While global and national efforts will be held, next year’s agenda for the Ontario Biodiversity Council includes reviewing progress against Ontario’s biodiversity strategy targets, completing the third State of Ontario’s Biodiversity Report; and initiating the renewal of Ontario’s Biodiversity Strategy for 2021-2030. Along the way, the Council will also hold a digital Biodiversity Summit.

This presentation will orient participants to the Ontario Biodiversity Council: how it works, its notable accomplishments, priority actions moving forward, and how organizations and the public can participate in efforts to protect biodiversity.
