This month, we’re highlighting and appreciating Tiffany from the Middlesex London Food Policy Council (MLFPC) for the monthly environmental volunteer spotlight! In her role as Social Media Volunteer, Tiffany has helped to grow the MLFPC's social media accounts and has been instrumental to the organization's knowledge sharing, advocacy, reach, and impact.

We interviewed Tiffany and here's what she had to say:

Tell us about yourself!

"My name is Tiffany. I am a fourth-year student at Western University and am currently completing an Honours Specialization in Nutrition and Dietetics degree. I am passionate about learning and contributing to the international food system, food literacy, and how nutrition takes part in everyone’s daily life. In my free time, I like to spend time baking and cooking for my friends and family. I joined MLFPC in May 2019 as a Social Media Volunteer. So far, I have helped MLFPC manage and create content for different social media platforms and websites. I was also part of the London-Middlesex Restaurant Support Fund storytelling project team. I am glad and thankful for being part of the MLFPC team and learning from so many amazing people on the team. I also hope I can contribute to making positive impacts in the community through work with the organization."

What made you start volunteering at the Middlesex London Food Policy Council?

"I developed my interest in the food system from studying abroad in Japan during the 2019 summer on Japan’s Food System and Food Culture. This study abroad program gave me a comprehensive view and hands-on understanding of the food system and its relation to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This experience opened my eyes and triggered my passion for learning about the food system. After I came back to Canada, I started looking for opportunities to learn more about and contribute to our local food system. Therefore, I joined MLFPC to build up my understanding and knowledge of our local food system."

What is one memorable moment you’ve had while volunteering?

"The most memorable moment was being part of the London-Middlesex Restaurant Support Fund storytelling project team. It was an incredible experience to interview and share how local restaurants are affected by COVID-19. I also appreciate how this experience allowed me to contribute/help/do something for our community during this pandemic."
