On November 4, the federal government is expected to drop a budget that will devastate health services, education and climate action, weaken public services and deliver billions in subsidies, weapons contracts and tax cuts to corporations and the wealthy.
These cuts will affect all of us. The cuts are going to hit the Ottawa region particularly hard, with almost half of the anticipated 57,000 layoffs occurring in the capital region. Coming from a Liberal government that just months ago promised to protect our public services and to “cap, not cut” public sector jobs, many are feeling betrayed. But together, we can fight back.
We will hear from workers and community members most impacted by the cuts who will help us understand how austerity affects each of us. The austerity agenda includes deep budget cuts while simultaneously increasing spending in weapons contracts and tax cuts to corporations. We will analyse the budget, looking at who’s pushing for austerity, and explore strategies to stop the cuts.
Join us in laying the groundwork for a popular response against this repressive, corporate agenda.
