The Southern Ontario Nature Coalition invites you to this workshop for municipal staff to share and discover effective actions we can take to conserve, protect, and manage regionally significant ecological systems and corridors in near urban landscapes, such as the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Space is limited so please register to secure your spot. More information will be shared with registrants the week prior to the workshop.

The workshops will be held virtually by Zoom. Once registered, a zoom meeting link will automatically be emailed to you.

Near-urban nature is comprised of the forests, river valleys, wetlands, savannahs, and other ecological features that surround and intersect our communities. Near-urban nature is critical to the health and well-being of all life in the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) and is one of our greatest resources for adapting to climate change.

Recognizing the interconnectedness of natural systems, the SONC Coalition is developing a near-urban nature strategy for the GGH. There will be a specific focus on lands that fall outside of current urban boundaries including lands within the Greenbelt and its urban river valleys. Of greatest attention will be connectivity of the natural landscape and opportunities to identify, protect and enhance ecologically significant habitats and corridors throughout the region.
