We’re thrilled to say that the Civic Works Committee voted 4-2 this week to keep Blackfriars Bridge closed to vehicular traffic until the matter can be put before Council on November 16th. You have yourselves to thank for this decision, as the petition many of you have signed played a huge part in delaying this reopening! Well done!
Our collective efforts shouldn’t stop here. We encourage everyone to write a letter to their councillor, with Ward 13 Councillor John Fyfe-Millar cc’d, expressing your support for permanently closing this bridge to motor vehicles. Think of it as a love letter to Blackfriars Bridge and to the city you want to build: one where active transportation is prioritized, heritage and public spaces are maintained and returned to the people, and our beloved Blackfriars neighbourhood remains connected to all of London’s incredible landmarks that dot the Thames Valley Parkway.
We know our City Council has it in them to reconsider this decision: look at the leadership they have shown thus far in cancelling the Wonderland Road widening project! We just need fellow Londoners to communicate their support for continuing on this path towards a healthy, sustainable, and accessible city for all who live here. You can find contact information for your councillor here.
With that, we’re “rebranding” our ride this Sunday, November 7th. Rather than mourn the potential loss of this key hub along the TVP, we’d invite you to join us in celebrating YOUR bridge, and YOUR city. We now invite you to join us for “Blackfriars: A Bridge Too Car”.
We'll meet at Blackfriars Bridge at 5:00PM and begin our ride at 5:15PM:
- East across the Blackfriars Bridge.
- South along the TVP towards Riverside
- Along Riverside/Dundas to Clarence.
- North along Clarence to Dufferin.
- East on Dufferin to Ridout.
- North on Ridout to Blackfriars Bridge.
All ages and abilities are welcome!!
