Bill 23 Info & Action Webinar

The Ontario Government has put forth an omnibus bill (Bill 23) with an opportunity for public input. Submissions must be in to the government by Nov 17th, so the need to act fast is urgent.

The Ontario Government wants you to think that the Bill 23 package is a housing bill – but the government itself admits those changes will only lead to the construction of about 50,000 of the promised 1.5 million homes.

Most of the changes made in Bill 23 are targeted at removing wetland and woodland protections* and creating a process for selling off conservation lands without oversight. It also strips power from municipalities that are trying to build more new homes within their city boundaries, forcing them to sprawl instead. This takes a lot of the work that the City and Londoners put into the award-winning London Plan at risk.  Bill 23 aims to put homes in all the wrong places.

A number of community groups in London have come together to host a 45 minute online webinar to provide background information on the impacts of Bill 23, and walk people through the process of submitting comments on the Ontario government website. Participants will be given different examples of (customizable) comments they can submit based on a particular interest. No previous experience or expert knowledge required. We need to raise our voices.
