The Sustainability Solutions and Innovation has been presented to Reforest London. This award recognizes a non-profit group that has made a local impact on the environment by developing a local solution or furthering sustainability innovation in technology or program delivery by creative thinking and adapting to the changing needs of the community.

Reforest London is a non-profit organization dedicated to partnering with the community to enhance environmental and human health in the Forest City, through the benefits of trees. They empower community groups, businesses, and individuals to plant and care for trees and look to improve London’s environmental health through planting trees and shrubs in natural areas, parks, yards and along streets.

There are two programs to feature, the Million Tree Challenge and the Neighbourhood Tree Giveaways. Their Million Tree Challenge is a community-wide initiative to inspire Londoners to plant one million new trees across the city. As of September, Reforest London has reached the community milestone of over 500,000 new trees planted! The Neighbourhood Tree Giveaways offers free trees to Londoners to incentivize them to plant trees on their private property. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Reforest London pivoted their Signal Boost Initiative to a virtual setting to highlight environmental work and elevate the sector.

In addition to Reforest London’s community programming, they recently upgraded their Westminster Ponds facility to utilize geothermal heating and cooling to dramatically reduce their GHG emissions and lead by example and showcase emerging technologies.

Congratulations to Reforest London for receiving this award!
