Meet Mackenzie McKim, one of London Environmental Network's own volunteers!
Since October 2020, Mackenzie has been an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer in her role as our Member Engagement Specialist. Mackenzie is responsible for updating our events calendar with all upcoming events from the London Environmental Network and our members. She also coordinates orientations with new members and runs our quarterly membership meetings with the network. Mackenzie's support helps us to promote and build capacity with members of the London Environmental Network, and we are so appreciative of all her hard work!
Learn more about Mackenzie in this interview below:
"My name is Mackenzie and I’m the Member Engagement Specialist at LEN. I completed my Honors Specialization in Social Justice and Peace Studies at King’s where I was able to learn about a number of different topics with a large focus on environmental issues, which I always felt drawn to. I’ve always felt a deep connection with the environment and love to spend as much time outside as I can going on hikes or gardening, but when I’m inside I love trying new recipes to cook or bake! This summer I’m growing as many fruits and veggies as I can and am looking forward to cooking with them!"
Why did you start volunteering at the London Environmental Network?
"I had made myself a goal to volunteer more at the beginning of 2020 but of course COVID put a halt to many of those opportunities. So when I saw that the London Environmental Network had created a few new volunteer positions that could be done from home I jumped at the chance and became their Member Engagement Specialist last October. Through this role, I’ve been able to meet and connect with the many organizations that are members of LEN, and have been able to learn from local environmental leaders about the important work they do."
What is a memorable moment you’ve had while volunteering?
"A memorable moment was the first time I put together a meeting with so many of the people in London’s environmental community that I look up to. It’s a good feeling to bring people together who share the common interest of making London an even greener city, and I’m looking forward to further supporting these groups with LEN."
