Project Category: Waste Reduction

Project Description:

Bird Friendly London will be installing disposal receptacles for monofilament fishing line in areas along the Thames River where people fish. The project aims to raise awareness of monofilament as dangerous litter for wildlife among anglers and to encourage pedestrians to pick up litter. In addition, Oneida First Nation and Chippewa of the Thames First Nation will be offered receptacles for fishing line, at no cost, to be installed in their communities wherever people fish along the river.

A river cleanup event will take place after the receptacles have been installed, inviting volunteers to clean up monofilament fishing line along the river and learn more about the threats fishing line poses for wildlife.
