Project Category: Emissions Reduction
Project Description:
Growing Chefs! Ontario worked with Joel Bakker of Urban Harvest Landscaping to build cold frame covers for their newly built garden beds, including a wheelchair accessible table-top garden which allows their partners at Hutton House to provide therapeutic gardening. The frames were built indoors in the winter and will be installed early spring to get a head start on the growing season. Growing Chefs! Ontario provide more than 10,000 children, youth and families annually with hands-on culinary and gardening experiences, and by extending their growing season, they will be able to provide these learning opportunities year-round. Students will be able to harvest herbs for their recipes right outside our kitchen doors, no matter the weather, and will also be able to grow even more produce for newcomer families through their Community Food Boxes in partnership with the Ontario Student Nutrition Program.
