On May 31st, The Thriving Communities Program planted an Edible Landscape at Community Living London. Our team, two contractors, and 12 volunteers planted a perennial fruit garden and built two annual raised garden beds. Details below!

Perennial Garden:

We removed existing garden beds, added fresh soil, and planted a variety of fruit trees and plants including cherry trees, peach trees, grape vines, blackberries, and strawberries. We placed two benches in the garden, so one will always receive full sun and the other will always receive full shade throughout the day as the trees grow.

Annual Garden Beds:

The annual raised garden beds were built with care. We planted a variety of different vegetables, herbs, and companion plants. The vine plants, specifically pole beans, were planted near the trellis, so they will grow vertically. We placed a bench through the mulched pathway so tenants and staff can sit under the pergola and enjoy the garden The beds were placed closer to the home to allow for easier access for maintenance and harvesting.

It was a tremendous success and we can’t wait to watch it grow!
