Meet David Neads, Event Photographer for Reforest London and our December Volunteer Spotlight!

"His positive outlook and passion for photography help to capture the moments that make our planting events special. Our staff and volunteers are constantly impressed by the photos David takes and his ability to make people feel comfortable and confident is invaluable. Not only does David make an impact at events but his photos go on to represent ReForest London and showcase our events in a beautiful way. We truly appreciate David's amazing generosity and dedication." - Rose Pfeifer, Volunteer Coordinator from Reforest London

We interviewed David and here's what he had to say:

Tell us about yourself!

“I was born right here in London, moved around to St. Mary's and Peterborough and returned to London to attend Fanshawe. I settled here, got a degree at Western, married, and raised 2 children. I worked at the Ford plant on their computer systems. I was an active member of the London Rowing Club while they were on the river, and enjoyed rowing the quiet parts of the river in the evening. Volleyball and cycling the many routes in the city keep me active now.”

Why did you start volunteering with Reforest London?

“Photography has always been a passion of mine, and when I retired I looked around for a program that could use my talents and that fit with my love of the outdoors. Reforest London was looking for an event photographer and their goal of planting one million trees was admirable. They are a wonderful group and have made me feel welcome, and my photos have been important for their education and promotion work. Sharing the enthusiasm of the people planting trees is delightful, and that makes the work fun!”

What is a memorable moment you’ve had while volunteering?

“My favourite memory is taking a photograph in the late afternoon light, capturing the excitement of a very small boy picking up numerous potted trees, trying to find the perfect one.”
