Fundraising & Events Committee Chair - Volunteer Posting

The Organization:

The London Environmental Network (LEN) is a registered environmental charity in London, ON that aims to create a greener, sustainable, and more resilient city. The LEN works to connect and engage individuals, nonprofits, community groups, and businesses to reduce their environmental impacts and co-create positive change. The LEN also works to raise the profile of the environmental non-profit sector to attract more volunteers and supporters in growing a healthy, sustainable city. Our vision is for London to be known as one of the greenest and most resilient cities in Canada.

Volunteer Position:

We are seeking a Committee Chair for our Fundraising & Events Committee. The Fundraising & Events Committee supports the development of events and fundraising initiatives for the organization. Volunteer work will be a combination of in-person and remote work, and involves collaborative work with LEN staff, committee members, some independent reading, meetings to discuss progress and new ideas, and executing events and fundraising initiatives.

The Fundraising & Events Committee provides advice and guidance to the LEN staff team with the goal of building overall fundraising and donor development capacity. In addition, the Committee organizes occasional events and fundraising initiatives for the LEN to increase the organization’s presence in the community and strengthen its financial stability.

The Committee is led by a Chair and Vice-Chair (a LEN Board Director), who report to the Board on the Committee’s goals and progress via bi-monthly reports and presence at Board meetings.

The committee currently meets 10-11 times per year with approximately 1-2 hours of prep work in between meetings. The minimum length on the committee is 1 year and may be renewed for an additional year, in perpetuity.

Specific tasks of the Committee include:

  • Act as an advisory group on staff-led donor recruitment, stewardship, and fundraising campaigns by providing ideas, analysis, and feedback.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Committee activities against annual fundraising targets.
  • When needed, represent the LEN along with staff on planning committees for fundraisers or events where the LEN partners with other organizations, providing advice and support as appropriate.
  • Organize occasional fundraising events (1-2 per year), varying in scale and scope based on current need and staff capacity to support, e.g. Green Game, Green Leader Awards.

Specific tasks of the Committee Chair include:

  • Coordinating Fundraising & Events meetings on a monthly basis, working with the staff liaison to prepare agendas.
  • Monitoring progress on the Committee’s work plan to ensure alignment with LEN’s Strategic Plan and Fundraising Strategy, and leading annual development of the following year’s work plan.
  • Reporting to the Board (at minimum every other month) on the Committee's goals and progress.

Our Culture:
